If you’re looking for a dipping sauce with a bold flavor, you’re in the right place. This Bang Bang Sauce strikes the perfect balance of sweet and spicy. Inspired by the Bang Bang Shrimp at Bonefish grill, this was something I knew I needed to recreate at home.
Plus, it requires just 3 ingredients and less than 5 minutes to whip up! Something that a mom managing her time with a passion for big flavors like me truly values!
This is at the top of my list for best dipping sauces for anything from fries to fried shrimp to raw or roasted vegetables. It’s also the same sauce I use to make my easy Crispy Bang Bang Salmon.
Bang Bang Sauce Ingredients
Here’s everything you need:
- Mayonnaise. You can absolutely substitute Greek yogurt (I often do!), just know this will add a bit more tang than in a typical Bang Bang Shrimp sauce.
- Sweet Thai Chili Sauce.
- Sriracha. Or equivalent.
Homemade Bang Bang Shrimp Sauce Tips and Tricks
Use a Fork or Whisk
This recipe is truly as simple as mixing everything together. The only other insight I can offer you is to do so with a fork or a whisk.
If you use a spoon or spatula to combine you may notice some clumps of mayonnaise instead of a super-smooth homemade sauce.
Tailor it to Your Taste
The great thing about making your own homemade sauce is not just that you have complete control over the quality of the ingredients you are adding, but also that you can totally tailor it to your particular taste.
That means adding less or more Sriracha depending on your desired spice level or adding extras depending on what you have on hand.
You can add salt and pepper to taste, a little bit of honey if you want it sweeter, or even a splash of rice vinegar for depth of flavor. You can also sprinkle in some paprika for more color or green onion or sesame seeds for a little texture.
Serving Your Bang Bang Sauce
This sauce is super versatile and is honestly a great dipping sauce for anything fried. From beer battered halibut to shrimp to sweet potato fries, this sauce uplevels whatever it is you dip into it.
Outside of fried foods, this is a great finishing sauce for a rice bowl (it’s particularly delicious over coconut rice), and also really compliments spring rolls and egg rolls.
How to Properly Store this Easy Dipping Sauce
This homemade Bonefish copycat Bang Bang shrimp sauce will last up to a week in the refrigerator in an airtight container.
It’s best enjoyed cold or at room temperature. I do not recommend freezing this sauce, as any mayonnaise-based sauce tends to separate when thawing.
