If you want to elevate your brekkie sandwich to the next level, you’ve got to smear on this Breakfast Sandwich Sauce. Creamy, citrusy, and savory, this stuff brings bold flavor to your sammie and uplevels it to epic status.
Plus, this sauce for breakfast sandwiches is very easy, requiring just 5 minutes (if not less!) and only 4 ingredients to whip up!
Without a doubt, it’s my favorite accompaniment to these Hawaiian Roll Breakfast Sliders, and an incredible option for this Egg and Cheese Sandwich, too!
As a champion of eco-friendly practices, I love making my own sauces!
Green tip: Making your own sauces and syrups is a great way to avoid extra plastic packaging that eventually ends up in landfills or makes its way into the environment and becomes microplastics
Breakfast Sandwich Sauce Ingredients
Here’s everything you need:
- Mayonnaise or plain Greek Yogurt.
- Lemon juice.
- Dijon mustard.
- Garlic powder.
How to Make a Simple Sauce for Breakfast Sandwiches
Whisk Your Four Ingredients Together
Add the mayonnaise (or Greek yogurt), lemon juice, mustard, and garlic powder to a bowl.
Use a fork or whisk to combine, until you’re left with a smooth and creamy sauce.
Make it Your Own
The best part of making your own sauce is the ability to tailor it to your own taste. After whisking it, taste the sauce to see if you want to add any extra lemon juice or garlic powder, or even a pinch of salt, pepper, or cayenne pepper.
You can also sub the garlic powder for minced garlic if you’re a garlic lover and have some on hand!
Get the Right Consistency
You may find the sauce to be a little too thick for your liking, especially if you’re using Greek yogurt instead of mayonnaise. If so, you can easily thin out the sauce with a splash of fresh water.
While whisking, add the water just a little bit at a time, until you are happy with the consistency. I like it thick and spreadable, but if you’re using it for dunking, you may want it on the thinner side.
How to Serve Breakfast Sauce
This savory sauce was created specifically to pair with breakfast sandwiches, but that doesn’t mean it’s not delicious with other dishes!
It’s also super tasty over a breakfast bowl like this Smoked Salmon Breakfast Bowl with Crispy Potatoes and simply drizzled over a plate of Over Hard Eggs.
How to Properly Store Sandwich Sauce
This breakfast sauce lasts for 1-2 weeks in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Leftovers are best served either cold or at room temperature.
I don’t recommend freezing this sauce, so I kept the yield of this recipe low. You can even half it if you want to make sure you have no leftovers and to help avoid waste.
Green tip: Of the billions of tons of food wasted annually, 50% of food waste happens at home. Reduce your contribution to food waste by properly storing and consuming leftovers.
