If you’re anything like me, you’re making ALL THINGS PUMPKIN SPICE with the drop of the very first leaf, and my fave tequila cocktail is no exception! This Pumpkin Spice Margarita is truly a Fall essential.
The warming spice blend in the pumpkin spice syrup is complemented by the pumpkin puree in this recipe, then freshened up by the addition of lime juice and tequila. It all comes together to make this drink one of my favorite unique margarita recipes.
As an environmental scientist, I am always trying to find ways to make my own syrups and spice blends. Food preservatives, like pesticides contain toxins that are harmful to plants, animals, and soil.
Homemade syrups and spice blends with all-natural ingredients allow you to avoid preservatives and improve your ecological footprint.
Plus, you don’t have to buy any extra pesky plastic containers when you whip up your own!
Green tip: Despite recycling efforts, the sad truth is that only about 9% of plastics are recycled, leaving the rest to become microplastics.
Pumpkin Spice Margarita Ingredients
Here’s everything you need:
- Blanco tequila. Reposado works, too.
- Lime juice.
- Pumpkin puree.
- Pumpkin spice simple syrup. You can buy it at the store (this Torani pumpkin spice syrup is my fave pre-made one) or make your own pumpkin spice syrup.
Pumpkin Pie Spice Margarita Tips and Tricks
Margaritas are Best with a Cocktail Shaker!
As a general rule, margaritas are best shaken, and this pumpkin spice version is no exception. It is in fact especially crucial you shake this special margarita up to make sure you are incorporating the pumpkin puree.
Add the tequila, lime juice, pumpkin puree, and pumpkin spice simple syrup to a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously to ensure that everything is well-incorporated and chilled.
Voila! You’ve got yourself a delicious pumpkin flavored margarita! It’s truly that simple.
How to Create a Pumpkin Spice Rim for Your Fall Margarita
If you want to give your Fall-spiced margarita an extra boost, consider a pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon sugar rim.
Wet the rim of you glass with a halved lime. Add the pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon sugar to a plate, shallow bowl, or easiest of all— a cocktail rimmer.
Then, just dredge the wet rim of your glass in it, and it should easily stick.
I love using a lowball glass for this drink.
Garnish with a Lime Wedge
I love this fun margarita because it perfectly combines Fall flavors with the fresh citrus you know and love in a classic margarita.
I typically garnish my margarita with a fresh lime wedge to really bring that citrus to the forefront.
Making a Batch or Making this Fall Cocktail Ahead of Time
This recipe can easily be doubled, tripled, or even quadrupled. Once made, this pumpkin spice cocktail will last about 4 days in the refrigerator.
Just make sure to hold the ice if you are pre-making! When you’re ready to enjoy, shake it up with the ice. The spices may settle at the bottom and that’s okay, shaking it will take care of that!
Recipe Ideas for Extra Pumpkin Puree
Buying pumpkin puree usually means you’re getting it in a 15-ounce can, and unless you’re knocking these margs back with a bunch of friends, you’ll have leftover pumpkin puree after making this drink.
Pumpkin puree will last 5-7 days in a sealed container in the refrigerator. Just make sure to remove the pumpkin from the can and put it in a clean airtight storage container.
Then, you can use the leftovers to make more of these margaritas, this Pumpkin French Toast or these Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies (this recipe is currently being re-vamped, will be back soon!).
Green tip: Did you know that of the billions of pounds of food wasted annually, it is estimated that 50% of it happens in our homes? It’s always best to avoid food waste as much as you can!
