Honey Mustard Glazed Salmon Ingredient Highlights
As I’m someone who is always determined to use the least amount of ingredients while still bringing the most flavor, you may be wondering why I’m whipping up a quick marinade from honey and mustard rather than just using pre-made honey mustard for this recipe.
Well, I tested this recipe with 3 different kinds of honey mustard (Ken’s, French’s, and Sweet Baby Rays) and unfortunately, they were all too water-based.
The honey mustard just completely melted off and pooled onto the sheet pan when baked, leaving the salmon flavorless and boring. However, I found that if you simply mix Dijon mustard and honey together to coat the salmon, it forms a delicious glaze.
I also tried this salmon recipe with and without the garlic, and while both were delicious, the crunch and flavor you get from topping the salmon with garlic adds enough depth of flavor to warrant recommending that extra step.
You can use fresh or frozen salmon, just make sure it’s thawed before you start cooking. I used skin-on, but skinless works, too. If you are using skinless salmon, you may want to grease your baking sheet with a little bit of olive oil so it doesn’t stick.

Baked Salmon with Honey Mustard Tips and Tricks
How I Make Honey Mustard Salmon in the Oven
When making salmon in the oven, it’s always best to start by blotting it dry with a paper towel to reduce excess moisture. This will give you the best texture on your roasted salmon.
In a small bowl, combine the honey, mustard, and pepper to make a rough and ready marinade.
Place the salmon skin-side down on a sheet pan and brush a generous amount of the honey mustard on top. I love to use a pastry brush for this, but the back of a spoon works, too.
Peel and mince your garlic and sprinkle it on top before roasting on the middle shelf. Note that the roasting time will vary greatly depending on the thickness of your cut of salmon. As a general rule, salmon should roast for 10-12 minutes per inch of thickness.
This means, for example, if your salmon is 1 inch thick, it’ll need 10-12 minutes. If it’s an inch in a half thick, it will need 15-16 minutes, and so on. But the best way to tell if your salmon is ready is always with a kitchen thermometer.
Aim for an internal temperature of 145°F on the thickest part of the salmon. If you don’t have a thermometer, you’ll know your salmon is ready when it turns from a translucent, bright pink to an opaque, pastel pink.

How I Store and Reheat Leftover Roasted Salmon
This Honey Mustard Salmon will last up to 4 days in the refrigerator in an airtight container.
To reheat leftover salmon, add it to a baking dish and preheat your oven to 400°F. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for about 15-20 minutes or until the internal temperature of the salmon reaches 145°F.
