As an environmental scientist, I am always trying to highlight sustainable ingredients. Beans, which are super delicious and packed with protein, are considered a sustainable food.

Beans are legumes, and like other crops in this category, they naturally produce nitrogen-fixing properties, meaning they do not require many (if any!) fertilizers to thrive.

And because of their long shelf-life, you are less likely to waste them!
