If you want to level up your quesadilla, the easiest way to do so is with a quick, 3-ingredient sauce! This Quesadilla Sauce has a velvety texture with just the right amount of tang from sour cream, with fresh citrusy notes and hints of spice from the salsa and seasoning.

Plus, it takes 5 minutes or less to make, which is something that as a busy mom with a gourmet palate, I certainly appreciate.

It’s undoubtedly my favorite way to elevate any quesadilla, from plain cheese to these BBQ jackfruit quesadillas!

Quesadilla Sauce Ingredient Highlights

I used regular sour cream, but you can also use low fat. Greek yogurt works here, too.

Use your favorite salsa! I used Mateo’s medium heat salsa which is very smooth.

All the ingredients you need to make quesadilla sauce including sour cream, salsa, and taco seasoning.

How to Make Simple Sauce for Quesadillas

Whisk It All Up

This sauce is wildly easy and just as quick to whip up. Simply add all the ingredients to a bowl and use a fork to whisk them together until well-combined.

If you have a chunkier salsa and you want a smoother quesadilla dipping sauce, you can instead add all the ingredients to a food processor or blender and blend on high to make it smooth.

Tailor it to Your Taste

Make this your own by using your favorite salsa or by adjusting the spice level with your choice of taco seasoning. You can also add a little bit of cayenne pepper if you really want to bring the heat.

Serving Your Quesadilla Sauce

This sauce was created specifically to pair with quesadillas, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t great with other dishes, too!

Try this homemade sauce with these Red Snapper Tacos or with these Tofu Fajitas. Or honestly, it’s even awesome just to dip some tortilla chips into.

How to Properly Store Homemade Sauce for Quesadillas

This homemade sauce lasts for 1-2 weeks in an airtight container in the fridge and is best served cold or at room temperature.

I don’t recommend freezing this sauce as the sour cream may split when frozen.
