Whipped Hot Chocolate Ingredients
Here’s everything you need:
- Milk. Any unsweetened, unflavored, or vanilla flavored milk will work.
- Heavy whipping cream.
- Hot chocolate mix.
How to Whip Hot Chocolate
Use a Milk Frother
Add the cold heavy whipping cream and one tablespoon of hot chocolate mix to a cup. I highly recommend using a milk frother to whip the cream and mix together.
If you don’t have a milk frother, you can use a bowl instead of a cup and whip it with a hand mixer. Continue to froth or mix until you get a thick, light, and airy texture.
Make a Traditional Hot Chocolate
A lot of whipped hot chocolate recipes suggest you serve your whipped chocolate over warm milk, but I highly recommend serving it over, well, more hot chocolate. It really rounds out the flavor for a decadent sip.
Heat your milk and add the other tablespoon of mix. Stir until well combined.
You can heat the milk on the stove until just simmering, or you can simply heat it in the microwave. I usually just do two 30-second intervals, stirring in between.
Layer them On Top of One Another
Now the whipped hot cocoa is so dang delicious on its own and can definitely be eaten with a spoon. However, it can’t be heated up and retain its lofty texture.
So, the solution is to float it on top of a mug of hot cocoa. This way, you’ll get the airy whip and the warming liquid in every sip!
Serving Your Whipped Hot Cocoa
Once you layer the two together, you are ready to serve! I love to top mine off with some mini marshmallows and shaved chocolate.
Some other great options are sprinkles, mini chocolate chips, chocolate syrup, a dusting of cocoa powder or powdered sugar, or even a candy cane!
You can also make this your own by spiking it with some Whiskey or Baileys (If you like this idea, see also: Spiked Baileys Hot Chocolate for Two), or adding a few drops of peppermint extract!
Doubling this Recipe
You can easily make larger batches of this whipped hot chocolate for the whole family! Just use a ratio of 1 tablespoon of hot chocolate mix for every ¼ cup of heavy whipping cream.
As for the milk, you can heat a larger amount over the stove, using 1 tablespoon of hot chocolate mix for every ½ cup of milk.
