Chocolate lovers rejoice! I have put together a list that I am referring to as Death By Chocolate, containing all my favorite chocolate recipes for chocolate lovers like me!
Whether you are a chocolate purist or like to enjoy your chocolate with a complimentary flavor like orange, peppermint, or peanut butter, this list has got something for you.
Green Tip: Make sure your chocolate is sustainably sourced. Look for Fair Trade, Rainforest Alliance, or UTZ certifications as opposed to self-proclaimed sustainability labels that sometimes falsely advertise “sustainably sourced”.
As an environmental scientist, I try to enjoy ingredients with a higher environmental impact in moderation and source them responsibly. So, as a self-proclaimed but independently verified chocolate-addict and all-things-chocolate enthusiast, I make sure when I do indulge in chocolatey things, I truly make it count.
You can do so, too, with one (or ten?) of the chocolaty chocolate recipes below.

Death By Chocolate: 30+ Chocolate Recipes for Chocolate Lovers, Including Whiskey Chocolate Truffles
Ingredients
- ⅓ cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 6.8 ounces dark chocolate (6.8 oz usually = 1 large bar)
- 2 ounces whiskey
- 2 to 3 tablespoon cocoa powder
Instructions
- Heat the cream and butter together either in a microwave-safe bowl for 1 minute and 30 seconds or over a double broiler until just simmering.
- Meanwhile, finely chop your chocolate and add it to a large mixing bowl.
- Pour simmering cream and butter over the chopped chocolate and whisk until chocolate is melted. The cream and butter mixture should be hot enough to melt your chocolate. Continue to whisk until chocolate is melted and avoid reheating.
- Add whiskey and stir until smooth. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and place in refrigerator to cool and harden—about 2 hours.
- Add cocoa powder to a shallow bowl or large plate. Once your chocolate/whiskey mixture has set, scoop out about 1 tablespoon of chocolate at a time, placing each scoop directly into the cocoa powder.
- Roll the chocolate in the cocoa powder until it is completely covered, then pick it up and roll between clean hands to form a ball. Set aside and repeat until you have about 8-10 truffles.
- Serve immediately or store in the refrigerator until ready to enjoy.
Pro Tips
- The butter and cream mixture needs to be hot enough to melt your finely chopped chocolate.
- Use high-quality dark chocolate rather than milk or semi-sweet.
